It hardly takes a few minutes to adopt these simple methods to achieve an eco-friendly environment in your office. We hope that you use these ways in your office and help to support “Go Green” cause.

1. Turn off all equipment when you are not at your desk:
It does not matter if you like to work late on into the night but make sure that whenever you leave your desk for say lunch or when you are leaving for home, turn off your Computer and Desktop Monitor, by doing this you can actually save carbon emission of around 750 pounds a year. Wouldn’t it be huge savings if all of us started doing this? Power can also be saved by turning off other electronic equipment like the microwave oven, washing machine, dish washer and so on and also by ensuring that your office and home printer is turned off, many of us leave them on when nobody is in the office / house which is wasting power, this is the same for Internet routers, just turn them off when they are not being used.

2. Purchase Green Office Materials:
Always purchase recycled paper for your office or home printers which will save many trees from getting cut down. This includes use of recycled toilet paper, water cups and paper towels. Such practises make your office a comfortable place to work in. Also ask your office administration to circulate an email with a list of practises that help in saving paper like avoiding printing separate copies of agendas for all members in meetings because sending an email or a slide show on a projector will work fine.

Printing unnecessary notes or documents from the computer can lead to lots of wasted sheets of paper and toner cartridges / ink cartridges.

3. Telecommute:
With the help of this advanced world of Internet it is possible to work from home with help of emails, video conferencing and instant-messaging. You can take advantage of this but avoiding travelling at least one day in a week as this helps in reducing the use of fuel and CO2 emissions, so in the time that you would normally commute you can use this time to have a coffee in recycled mugs. If telecommunication is not possible for your type of work then you can use public transport or you could opt for the car pooling option.

4. Buy Reusable Cups:
Avoid using Styrofoam cups take a step towards making your office eco friendly. For coffee and tea you can provide recycled mugs to your staff and use reusable bottles for drinking water.

These methods can also be applied to your home.

5. Try to Re-cycle Everything:
You can recycle practically everything these days such as paper, plastics, office furniture, ink / toner cartridges and so on.

Thanks for reading, we hope you can apply these methods to your offices and start becoming eco friendly.
